Hi, just over a year ago I had Left Breast cancer, T size invasive 14mm, ER 8/8 positive, PR6/8 positive, Her 2 neu: Neg. All margins clear >3mm. Nodes negative, 0/1 nodes. I had 5 consecutive radiotherapy sessions and I am on T. Letrozole 2.5 mg for 5 years but I consider myself lucky as prior to that 7 years ago I had a complete hysterectomy following Endometriol Carcinoma.
So that's my background.
However, following my Breast Cancer operation and radio, I had barely recovered when my husband was diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer and then I became his carer up until his death at home in May this year. After that it was necessary for me to sell my property and move closer to family in a small easy to manage property. So I dealt with all the packing and moving etc and finally moved in 3 weeks ago.
My reason for giving you all these details is because I had not really taken notice of myself and it is only now that I have noticed that my scalp seems to be all scaley and dry and when I washed my hair today I could see (on a dark towel) just how much hair seems to be coming out. Is this the cause of the Letrozole and has anyone else had their scalp get so dry or is it perhaps the stress of the past year?
I did want to put some oil on my scalp to try and moisturise it a bit but then I have read that some oils etc can reduce the good that the Letrozole is doing and after having cancer twice I don't want to risk it coming back again!
Any advice please?
Hi Syranara and welcome to the forum. What a time you have had over the last few years. Maybe, just maybe this could be stress related and it would be entirely reasonable to think that with all that has happened for you. Do you have a regular Hairdresser at all as they may be able to advise you re this. Letrozole does dry out other parts of the body so it could potentially be the culprit, but I would use something really gentle on your hair like baby shampoo for now and see if that helps any but also ask the Hairdresser. x
