Hi I was diagnosed with Breast cancer in January and had a lumpectomy in February and radiotherapy in April. I've noticed I can feel a lump in the same breast think it's the same place but I can only feel it when I am lying down. I've called the breast care nurses and I'm waiting for them to call back. I'm hoping they give me an appointment to have it checked and hoping this is only scar tissue.  Has anyone else experienced this please?

Thanks

  • Hi  yes I can reassure you a little and say I too had/have this issue. Radiotherapy can cause scar tissue, which in my case has caused a firm lump that gets a bit firmer each year that passes! Apparently massage could have helped to prevent this BUT I was never told that at the time!!

Also sometimes metal clips are used to mark the area for surgery. I only found that out at my first post surgery mammogram. That too can feel like a lump!

I think it’s unlikely that this is the return of your cancer! However it is ALWAYS best to get these things checked, as if nothing else it will give you reassurance.

Wishing you all the best. Sal xxx

  • Thanks for your reply Sal the nurse has called back and said it is most likely scar tissue but is sending an appointment out for me to get it checked in next 2 weeks.

Best wishes to you too Jill xx

  • Hi. I had a check up for a “new” lump I found and it was scar tissue. Best wishes

  • Thanks Irishgirl I have an appointment on 22nd May now to have it checked so fingers crossed. Best wishes to you too xx

  • I had my appointment today at the breast clinic and a nurse specialist checked me and they also did an ultrasound scan and said everything is fine- just post surgery tissue, nothing suspicious so that's a big relief. All the staff were great.

  • Wonderful news and you will rest easy now.

  • Hi, I had lumpectomy operation yesterday. I think they say it can be scar tissue we feel after. But please contact your breast care nurse if you are concerned, or your doctor. You have been through enough without this added worry.

  • Hi Skyemum, I had the same operation and radiotherapy 12 years ago now. I would say it is likely to be scar tissues, however best be on the safe side and have this checked outThumbsup

    Sending big hugs Hugging x
