Hi. I’m going to try cold capping and wondered whether you had any recommendations for shampoo and conditioner during chemotherapy. I’m currently using body shop ginger shampoo for dry scalp. I’m not sure if I should buy another shampoo.
I didn't cold cap but I was advised to only use a very mild shampoo while having chemo.
I cold-capped. I used baby shampoo or Hair Growth Shampoo by Watermans. One wash only, not my usual 2. I used Waterman's Hair growth conditioner before putting on the cold cap. I used a wide tooth comb and I washed my hair only once or at most twice during each of my 3-week chemo cycles. I lost some hair but my oncologist couldn't believe that I had retained so much given my chemo drugs. I had a very supportive nurse who made sure the cap was well pulled down. On her advice, I took a couple of paracetamols half an hour before using the cap. It is well worth giving it a try. I was given a wig by the NHS but never needed it. I lost body hair, but no complaints there. The worst was eyebrow thinning and eyelashes which have never regained their thickness despite my efforts with serums. Serums might help during chemo but check first with the chemo nurses or maybe others on this site. Do use dark nail varnish, I didn't and ended up with very bad nails which I will have for life (minus a large toe nail which has recently been removed) Good luck. Chemo isn't nice but you will get through it. Good Luck x
