Morning everyone, I’ve just read that those receiving or  those that have received radiotherapy in the last 6 months eligible for the 2024 spring Covid booster (according to vaccine ‘green book’). Does anyone know if I’m right?  If so, how long between radiotherapy and Covid booster is optimal?

  • I got a notification for the booster, finished 2 months now, so you should too. Not sure if or how much you should wait.

  • Hi I've read that too. Someone else posted that their doctor has advised them to wait 3 weeks after radiotherapy finishes so that's what I'm going to do.

  • Thank you for replying. I start RT on Wednesday so I'll ask but so far no-one has mentioned it

  • Hi I'm new to this as recently diagnosed. However I rang aoc chemist and asked about covid booster as I'm not old enough yet despite having g COPD. The answer was if you are diagnosed with  cancer you can have the booster. Hope this helps

  • I got offered covid jab just the other week along with the flu. Wont be taking either

  • Hello,  just a thought but if you have COPD you should seriously consider getting the Covid and flu shot.
I don’t know about the time frame regarding radiation and the jabs but can ask Dr about it.

I remember when I was going through Cancer surgery and treatment that I had my immunizations up to date.  This was in 2021 and 2022 so it was in the news more and I live in US.

    Take care

    Barbara

  • Covid booster available for 6 months post RT or CT. I was advised I could have it during RT treatment. Had it, no problems as I’m glad I did. Thanks for all the answers. It really helps

  • Hi a few days ago I answered a question about covid jab and radiotherapy. I received a phonecall yesterday from my GP who had received a memo from tbe hospital advising i needed the covid booster. I am not otherwise eligible as yet. Hope this clarifies things a bit more. Fortunately I had already researched this and contacted a participating chemist who was willing. to give me the booster

  • Hi Pool pleased your sorted now. I had mine on Wednesday- I waited a month after radiotherapy though as wasn't feeling great after radiotherapy and also started letrozole 3 weeks ago - just wanted to space things out a bit. They asked why I was eligible and I said I'd had radiotherapy last month and they went ahead with the jab without asking for any proof  although I did have my radiotherapy discharge letter with me in case they wanted proof. My arm was sore but has eased off now and felt a bit under the weather yesterday morning but fine now.
