Hi,
Quick question, has anyone suffered with a sore scalp after chemo? I had my first session on 5th Jan, I cold capped (but don’t think I will next time) I’ve suffered horrendous headaches since the chemo/cold cap and the thought of having the cold cap on my head is making me feel sick. I started losing my hair yesterday, today my scalp has started hurting does anyone have any tips to ease the soreness?
I have my next chemo session on 26th Jan.
any help is appreciated xx
when i was doing first rounds and hair started falling, i chopped it short, and didnt use shampoo often. warm water, and i applied jojoba oil and massaged with the rubber thingies you can buy now, gently always gentle to ease the tightness.
i think it could be just getting dry, but get nurses to look. jojoba is suppose to be close to human sebum, be sure to get pure and good quality.
i applied every few days or so to keep head happy, i did get one scab once but generally head was ok, still apply now, almost 2 months down
I had the same problem. Hair stared falling out around two weeks after first EC. A week later my scalp became really painful to the touch. Lasted about ten days and has stopped now. Still shedding a lot of hair but no more scalp pain. I did try paracetamol but it didn’t help. Hopefully your scalp will start to feel better soon xx
I had a painful scalp at a similar point to you, it was shortly before some hair fell out. I lost a patch on top which I covered with a pony tail and a headband. I cold capped for 2 courses of chemo and kept enough hair til about 3 months in then chopped it off. I never lost it all but lost a lot. I'm 3 months post chemo and have a good covering of hair now x
Yep! Painful scalp when hair started coming out. I decided to cut it just over a week later to control the shedding. Hubby wouldn't use a guard on the clippers when cutting hair short in case he hurt me more. Once the hair was cut to about an inch long (well, what was still there) the scalp pain and itching settled. I also have kept a lot of what was left, so far.
