Suspicious cells in peritoneal washing

Hi everyone. I thought I’d finished my active treatment for ER8 PR8 Her- BC but was told a few days ago that “abnormal and suspicious” cells were found in the peritoneal washing done during the removal of my ovaries & tubes two weeks ago. Not enough for a definitive diagnosis but they do have oestrogen receptors.  Ovaries, tube and endometrium biopsies were all clear. Has anyone else had this? Apparently it’s pretty rare. I‘m really worried the cells are from my BC.

  • Hello MaySim

I hope you do not mind me responding as I had a different kind of cancer to you, but I noticed you had not yet had a reply. Hopefully by me doing so it will bump your post. With Christmas I expect people may not be checking in as much.

I had endometrial cancer and during that they also seem to do peritoneal washing. It is reassuring that your ovaries, tubes and endometrial biopsies were clear but I can understand your concerns. I think as you naturally have questions about the oestrogen receptors it would be best to contact your CNS or GP to ask about this. Alternatively you could give the Support Line a call and speak to one of the nurses on there who may be able to explain this for you. I will pop a link below that may help. The Support Line will be back on the 27th.

Hopefully someone who has experienced similar will now see your post and offer some support.
