Breast cancer metastasis to the spine

Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago. I had a mastectomy,  and chemo and radiotherapy to reduce the risk of the cancer returning. I had a mammogram in august and all was good, however I started having a pain in my back and after scans and a biopsy I was told the cancer had metastasised to my spine at T3. Luckily it hasn’t spread anywhere else and I am waiting to see my consultant to discuss treatment options. After doing some research I keep coming across articles that say this isn’t curable but treatable. Is there any one else in the same position as me who could give me their advice and experience if that’s the right word to use. I have also been taking tamoxifen for the last 5 years and I I have just found out that these tanker should not be taken with a certain antidepressant that I am taking . I feel very angry at the moment knowing that maybe this could have been avoided.

  • I haven't got the same diagnosis but I understand your anger. I am waiting for an MRI of my spine, had a variety of pains in ribs, sternum and spine. I have been reassured that my antidepressant is ok with Tamoxifen. They don't tell us enough or give out enough factsheets on the subject. My oncologist didn't believe I had osteoporosis when I do.

Its a shock and if I end up in the same boat I just hope the treatment works. No reason why it shouldn't. 1 yr mammogram on Friday. Fingers crossed. X

  • Fingers crossed for you, can I ask which antidepressant you are taking please.

  • Citalopram or Cipramil whichever you prefer.
