Does anyone have any advice re what to wear during chemo? Does my arm need to be completely free or can I wear long sleeved tops? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

i had a pic line in top of my arm so I had to wear short sleeves , but I wore warm comfortable clothes luckily enough mine was during the summer months but my last few were in october so I took a small throw with me because I found it cold . All the best take care it will be soon over xx

  • Hi Andypandy

You can wear long sleeved tops, just make sure the sleeve can easily rolled up so they can administer your chemo.

Best of luck with your first chemo session.

  • bring a cardigan or a throw you can have half on if u get cold. something loose and comfy to sit in. i usually wore jeans and loose tshirt with hoodie or sweater as i have a port.

  • Depends on how your chemo is being administered really.

I have a port so needed access to my chest,  loose neck tshirts or button shirts.

If you have a PICC line you'll need short sleeves.

If you are having a canula I'd recommend elasticated bottoms or leggings if you wear trousers - it can be pretty tricky going to the toilet with a needle & tube attached to your hand.

And bring a blanket or woolly.  Some people changed to comfy socks or slippers too!

  • The chemo suite I go to is always very warm so I wear layers so i can adjust easily.  You can be sitting for a long period so a comfortable waistband helps!

  • Agree with overall advice, comfort predominates if nothing else it can help you feel pampered. Warm fluffy socks you can pad to the loo in BUT if you are cold capping a couple of paracetamols to take before hand (tell your chemo staff but it is strange but getting a couple of paracetamols can be tricky)

    Good luck xxx

  • Thank you, Daisy, and everyone else for your suggestions. I'm having a PICC line inserted and it's good to know what to wear for comfort and ease of access. Things are moving ahead now after being in the slow lane for 3 months. I'll check back after my first dose. Thanks again x

  • Hi, I found it helpful to wear leggings. My chemo was long and I needed to go to the loo whilst still wheeling a drip and so fiddling wit’s a zip on jeans was a disaster with only one hand free.  Best wishes

  • From one Irishgirl to another, thank you, although "girl" might be stretching credibilty in my case, lol. I hope you're keeping well. X

  • I'm mid 50's (gosh how did that happen!) so not really a girl either but it's all about perceptions Joy
