Hi,

I had my mastectomy and nodal dissection yesterday and am thankfully now home. I've started to feel and itchy nipple, but I  don't have one. Has anyone else felt this and did it settle?

Tha ks in advance.

  • I had phantom sensations too. My surgeon told me to put my hands on the area, and said this would help the brain "rewire." I followed her advice, and it helped.

Since your surgery is so recent, and also because I believe we all need to check with our own teams before doing anything, I would advise checking with your surgeon to see if they think this advice might apply to you too.

  • Hi, I had a mastectomy 2 weeks ago and also have strange sensations as if the breast is still there. I have found putting my hand on it helps both the syrange sensation and the pain especially since I have experienced fluid retention in that area. I would say if it works do it, can't do amy harm! Hoping the sensation settles as we heal.

  • Thank you both. I have been looking at the wound and did have my hand there when I'm on my side. Slowly getting used to the new me. I sort of knew it might happen, but wasn't expecting it to feel so real. I will mention it to the nurse when she rings about my drain.

  • Nothing prepares you for this. All the reading I did and the information I was given did not prepare me for how I would feel.  I hoped I was going to be one of those women who seems to sail through the whole thing but it has been the most horrendous experience and struggling physically and emotionally...
