Hey everyone
Having a second oncology appt today, still waiting for treatment to start and getting very anxious as been over a month since i was diagnosed, so just want it all to start now asap!
I have had the flu jab which seemed like a no brainer to me, but i haven't had the covid jab. Just wondering what others have done. Had covid jabs in past with work but don't feel they made much difference as ended up having covid twice after that.
Also, will be having chemo (soon hopefully), and wondering if its worth cutting hair shorter for now or not, currently have length below shoulder blades. Will be trying the cold cap, so should i wait till after first cycle to see how it goes with hair?
So many questions!!!! Thank you!
Ask your oncologist whether you should have your COVID jab. As regards hair it's very personal decision. Are you definitely able to use cold cap? I think with certain types of chemo it isn't recommended and also does your chemo unit have the cold cap machines?
I was advised to cut my hair in to a Bob for cold cap. They felt the weight of my hair would tug on my hair follicles, and make it more likely to fall out if I left it long. If your hair is very thick, you might consider even shorter than a Bob. Either way you have to be gentle with your hair. Cancerhaircare was a great source of advice .
My onco told me to have the covid jab so I had that and they threw flu at me a week later. I felt poorly after the covid jab the next day but nothing with the flu jab. I'm due to start next week but had mastectomy first and my wound hasn't healed fully so will be delayed. My hair was below the shoulders like yours and I decided to have a longer pixie cut. I've had it short before though so knew what to expect. I'll be on EC-P which means I'm probably going to lose a lot of my hair. Good luck with your journey xx
Thank you everyone for your advice! Really appreciate it all . Had oncologist appt and totally forgot to ask about covid jab - duh!!!. But will be starting 1st cycle next Thursday now and have asked to use cold cap so let's see how that goes! Have decided to
eep hair as it is and see what happens
! Thank you all x
