Hi All, I hope you are all doing well.

I've been on tamoxifen for a couple of months and still having my regular periods. Is this normal? I was diagnosed with ER and PR positive cancer in July.

Is anyone else still having periods on this medication, I'm 51.

Thanks

  • Hi Fizzler, I’ve been on tamoxifen since May and haven’t had any periods. Before I started chemo they were regular as clockwork. They stopped after my 2nd cycle of chemo. Might be worth checking things with your chemo nurse or oncologist. I was under the impression that tamoxifen would make periods disappear as they are reducing the oestrogen levels but I guess as we are all different maybe it takes time before they stop.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Thanks Cuffcake. I will check with him if I ever get to see him. Everything is so delayed. Was meant to have an appointment a few weeks ago but due to NHS strike action  so still haven't had my first appointment with my Oncologist, xx

  • Hope you get to see him soon. This strike action does put such a halt on things. Perhaps keep chasing. I don’t know if your local gp would know and be able to help. Do you have a breast care nurse you could call ? Or maybe even the MacMillan help line.

  • Hi,

My periods stopped when I started chemo and also zoladex, I took letrozole in addition to zoladex at first but now moved onto tamoxifen. I have been taking only tamoxifen since may this year and periods have not returned but I have been told there is a good chance that they will at some point so I think what you are experiencing is normal.
