Does anyone have any experience of fat grafting to even up breasts after a LICAP flap operation?
My consultant is keen, I feel I need to know more about it on a real-life level. Anyone know how the areas where the fat has been removed will look afterwards? Also, I would like to understand if there are actually any medical benefits or is it purely for cosmetic purposes?
The procedure is under general anaesthetic and the chances are you will need several goes at it as you lose a lot in transfer. I’ve been reading up on it a bit and the studies seem to be a bit inconclusive at the moment. There are also risks of fat necrosis if it doesn’t survive - sounds grim - and it would mean that you couldn’t have another flap operation in that area- but then I don’t know that you can actually have two??? ♀️
I have a lymphoedema from the radiotherapy and the area can be a bit ‘spiky’ at times but on the whole it’s not too bad, albeit it a bit wonky compared to the other one!
Anyone any thoughts or experience please?
Hi MsFoxtrot welcome to the forum. I noticed that you hadn't had any replies as yet so trying to bump your post up a bit. It sounds like a lot of uncertainty and lots of unanswered questions for you. Im wondering if it may be worth you contacting the Macmillan Line and see if they have any information re this procedure that they can send or maybe put you in touch with the the Nurses there who may or may not be able to offer more information for you. 08088080000.

Hi, I have discussed this with my surgeon but not taken up the offer.
I had a single mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction. Tbh I've had enough treatment /surgery & anaesthetic so not going to have any.
They tell me the harvested fat cells can be stored & so if more than one graft is required, which is often the case they can use the cells in the store. You have listed the main reasons why
My friend has had it done, had to wear compression garment on the site where fat cells taken
Good luck & hope you find the info you are looking for x
Hi ya,
I had a fat transfer, a bit like they do for lipo suctions last year, they took it from my belly and also both of my thighs in the end as I'm quite petite. I am pleased with the results on the boob, although some of it has been reabsorbed which they warn can happen, it also helped with the pain I was having from the implant rubbing. Both of my thighs do have a dent on them, in a strip which I find annoying but can deal with it.
Hope that helps a little
