Hello,
I am.just wondering if anyone on here has suffered from a really bloated tummy with gas and heartburn. I have read about chemo belly but just wondered if anyone else had this and what has helped the symptons.
My stomach looks like I have a football inside and is really hard.
Thank you
Hi Boney M
I had my first round of chemo last week Tuesday. I’ve suffered with bloating and gas since about 3 days ago. When reading about chemo, it’s a pretty common side effect I think.
Can’t offer advice on dealing with it as I haven’t tried much yet. I was given the anti acid tablets to take for 5 days and since I’ve stopped them it’s definitely worse. Going to see a pharmacist tomorrow and see what they suggest.
Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Hi
i have just finished 6 rounds of chemotherapy, and after the first one I wish I had known then what I soon learned after.
I was not aware of the SE of heart burn, and bloating, which makes you not want to eat eventhough I craved carbohydrates all the time.
my stomach would be hard and I would feel sluggish too as I didn’t always feel like doing any exercise.
once they prescribed me lanzoprazol and took this the day before chemo and then for the next 5 days it really helped, I tried to just eat little and often and drink loads of water.
in the second week it would start to feel more like normal again but then off we go again for the next round.
if you can and feel up to it a short walk each day helped me too
good luck and hope it helps x
The heartburn is very unpleasant and makes it harder to eat. I was recommended Gaviscon by the chemotherapy hotline when I rang to say that I was experiencing bad heartburn. I asked if I could buy over the counter acid suppressant known as omeprazole, and was told yes. My oncologist subsequently prescribed me a stronger dose than you can buy over the counter. It really works and I found it took effect after only a day. I am now on the lookout for it and will take at the very first sign.
Hi, my Chemo gave me terrible heartburn, really scary. I was prescribed omeprazole and that has really helped me. Best wishes
I found nexium good I do pilates and found laying on back with knees tucked into stomach and rock side to side, forwards and backwards
