Hi, i had have had both. My first masectomy i left the day after with a drain, and my second mastectomy i left the same day without a drain. I do think it can depend on what time of day you have your surgery both of mine were early in the morning so the nurses could see i was well enough to go home. Even when i went home with drain it was not to bad at all no need for painkillers needed so i think you will be fine. also you can sleep better at home and recover quicker all the best
Yes, it is possible to go home the same day…l had a mastectomy at about midday and was home eating toast in my own bed by 6.00p.m. ( that included 45 min drive from hospital ) I did have one drain and district nurse came out about 3 times to change it and then finally remove it. I didn’t have any pain to speak of, bit of discomfort but that was about it. It was good to get in my own bed and enjoy the comfort of being home.
Like everything to do with the treatment of bc it is such an individual thing and one size doesn’t fit all!!
Best wishes to you x
Yes I was discharged the same day with two drains in. District nurses called every other day to check on me I learnt to drain and keep check on the fluid after 10 days my drains were taken out and district nurses stopped calling. To be honest I was fine I had operation at 12.30 pm and I was discharged at 5.30pm
thank you everyone, as i am learning, and as mrs polly said, there is no bc that one size fits all, but so glad to have these little feedbacks to make sure i am prepared as much as i can be, going to enjoy the next few days with hubby (hopefully in the sun!) with both boobs still there and some nice days out/food, ready for thursday. Thank you all for your input, really helps. i have to be at the hospital 7.30am so hopefully one of the morning ops xx
