Hi fellow fighters & big cheer for pink October.hope everyone is doing well.I just needed a bit of info on what to expect. Its my first oncology appointment after successful wide local excision op  on September 5th.tumour removed, margins clear, lymph nodes clear. My next part of the journey is chemo herceptin, letrozole,& radio, all to prevent recurrence due to HER2positive.Can anyone tell me what happens at your first onco appointment.thank you

  • Hi New2this, sorry to hear of your diagnosis. On my first oncology appointment the type of chemo was discussed, plus all side effects and a consent form signed. The side effects are scary but they have to cover everything. Remember we are all different and some of us get one or two, some get none and some may get more. If you do get any discuss straight away with the chemo nurses or oncologist as a lot of them can be sorted with extra meds or different dosages. Bloods maybe taken to check all is ok before chemo starts. Sometimes they may take them the day before or on the day you are due to start. If you have any questions whilst your oncologist is discussing any of your treatment just ask no matter how silly you might think they are.
I was triple positive and am still undergoing my targeted treatment for the HER2 positive, plus I have hormone tablets to take too. If you want to click on my name you can read my journey so far.
    wishing you all the best
