What is happening???

Hello, recently diagnosed, saw the consultant for a plan and thought that was that. Then I get a call from bc nurse saying I needed to come in for another ultrasound to check the calcifications on either side of the tumour. Whilst that made me nervous, I was reassured that it would be the right thing to do. I just called to book that appointment and the person I spoke to said it was for a biopsy? What is going on? I’m starting to feel like maybe they made a mistake and they are trying to fix it. Maybe the results they gave me initially aren’t even mine and now they want to fix that? I called bc nurse and she is not available today so I can’t get more information. Potentially, another biopsy could mean different results, different diagnosis from the original and different outcome- I am losing my mind! Has anyone had a similar experience?

  • Hi Ruva

While I haven’t had your experience I noticed that you haven’t had any replies yet so I thought I’d reply to you to welcome you to the community.

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment.

  • Hi Ruva

i had a similar type of experience where I was given a plan for my right breast but was called back for further check on left one. The radiographer had another look at the scans and thought there was signs of cancer there too. I had to go back for a further ultrasound then biopsy on left side. I was worried not just about losing both breasts but delaying the first surgery due to the recall time taken. Luckily it was a small benign lump and nothing extra needed. However I then consoled myself and was thankful they were being thorough in double checking. It’s best they are 100% sure before surgery. I hope it goes well.

  • Hi ruva, very similar to me, had routine scan, called back just over week later, had more detailed mamagram, ultrasound of boob and armpit, as had calcifications around a small cancerous lump, I was told that I would never have found that by checking myself, had biopsies as well, seems standard with the calcifications . It's just them being thorough thank god, have mastectomy booked 12th, had pre ops done the same day as biopsies, thank god for this forum, main thing for me get the boob off and pray the lymph nodes will be clear,  keep posting on here, the support and experiences shared has been such a helpful at this emotional time x

  • Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. It helps to keep me grounded. All the best in your journeys too.

  • Hi Ruba,  I know how stressful the diagnosis and plan can be.  Seems things change just when you get used to the idea of what will happen.  I started out with DCIS in right breast low and intermediate ER and PR positive and Her2 negative.  Well surgeon decided to have MRI’s done in both breasts and then I ended up having stage 1 breast cancer 3mm lump in left breast so 2 lumpectomies and radiation and now on hormone therapy but glad they checked things out thoroughly as would have hated to need more surgery in a few years.  Take care and I understand how you feel but try not to worry all the time as I did that and it was not good.  I did exercise and kept on going as it helped.  Hugs to you.

  • Hi Ruva.  I’m sorry you’ve been diagnosed with cancer,   I had the same experience.  I had a biopsy which was cancer.  Then two further biopsies of areas which were calcium and benign but they wanted to check before proceeding to treatment as it would change the treatment plan.  So I think it’s not unusual at all.  They just want to make sure the plan is the right one.  X

  • Thank you so much lovely people. I will let you know how I get on.

  • Got official appointment 12th October 7.30am, so just taking it all in and starting to prepare, both me and Huns been on such emotional journey so far, but so glad nothings being sugar coated, good Heartluck everyone, all here to share and care Heart️

  • Hi Ruva,

I was given my diagnosis on Sept 11th. I was told that day there was another area of concern and planned for MRI and ultrasound. MRI done a few days later and the ultrasound a week after that. When I went for the ultrasound I was told there were three other lumps on the mammogram (now known as Larry and the Boob Boyz boyband) and they wanted to biopsy those too (No warning - I take blood thinning meds and hadn't stopped them, so limited chose of biopsy) . I also had a titanium marker inserted. I now have to go back for another ultrasound of the axila next week. It's quite stressful, as every time I think I'm getting my head around what is happening, some new information/test comes along. I'm focusing on it showing they are thorough during MDT discussions and hope this means that surgery will be well planned and hopefully not delayed from the original date. I get the results of the second set of biopsies on Friday, which I expect to show the same cancer.
