Adjuvant radiotherapy

Hi all

so lucky that I only need adjuvant radiotherapy and letrozole for the next 5 years however it has been rather a long way to get to this stage including a lung biopsy and removal of a kidney for renal cancer.  this has all taken 14 months of waiting, cancellations, anxiety and stress

Just wondering how long post operatively people are waiting for radiotherapy (currently 12 weeks post op and no sign of a planning appt)

Be really grateful to hear from others as it seems rather a long time to me or maybe I was being optimistic in thinking I might get my life back by October

Good luck all

  • Hi, the waiting, and the inability to plan, is so frustrating.  I had surgery in early August and radiotherapy in October, with a slight delay as I had to wait for a seroma to subside.  Hope this helps

  • Thanks

Just so frustrating.  It is now 14 months since this nightmare started and I just want it finished.  There have been  so many waits and delays for various reasons including strikes and it currently seems that this final step is going to take at least 18 weeks.   Wouldn't be so bad if they could give some provisional dates.  It has an impact on family and friends

  • Hi, I had lumpectomy  in  mid June. No chemo and taking Letrozole for the next 7 years. I have a planning meeting on Monday 2nd October and radiotherapy is likely to start last week of October. Will know the dates at the planning meeting.  I am based in Oxford. Hope this helps and good luck.

  • Thanks India

Just seems a very long time especially as both Macmillan and Breast Care Now mention 4-8 weeks as the optimum timing.

Guess it also seems ages for me as it took nearly a year before I had my lumpectomy

    Good luck

  • Just wondered how you were getting on now? I had a similar waiting time, drove me mad with anxiety all the waiting

  • Did you get your start date India? We're on a similar time frame, lumpsecctomy June and waiting

  • Planning appointment today to start radiotherapy on 30th October cancellations etc permitting

It'll be 18 weeks since surgery

Hopefully can rebuild my life after this

Thanks all and good luck to you all

  • Hi all, I start 4 weeks of radiotherapy on 26th October. It does feel like it has taken a long time since surgery mid June but grateful treatment is going to end and hopefully by the end of the year my cancer journey will have had positive outcome as my Hubbie has stage 4 renal cancer. Poppet did you have kidney cancer as well as breast as that's a double whammy. Good luck to you all...its a tough and emotional journey. Positive vibes to you all xx

  • Good luck India

Yes, unfortunately I had kidney cancer as well but was very lucky as they were able to remove it all

  • Hi there,

I waited 9 weeks but I think I could have had it a bit sooner. They allowed me to have the holiday I'd  booked first.

I'm  same as you adjuvant radiotherapy and Letrazole.

    Good luck.
