I was due to get breast lump biopsy results by phone tomorrow but they have called today to say I now have to go in for a face to face appointment. They won’t tell me anything over the phone but I’m now fearing the worst. Has this happened to anyone else?
Hi Saz79 it's completely understandable that you're worried about this and it's difficult to judge what this could mean. My own experience was different, it was during Covid and most of my appointments and conclusions were communicated by phone. My advice would be to ensure to take someone with you and to take a notebook and pen so that you can write down anything they tell you.
I also had a look at the advice on Macmillan and this might be useful for you as it helps to prepare for appointments, Appointment prep link
Best wishes
Hi Saz79 this same situation has happened to me. Biopsy on 20th, was supposed to have a call with a nurse on 31st for results but I had a call to say it had changed to a face to face with a doctor after MDT discussion. Sorry to be intrusive but can you please tell me what the outcome of your face to face was?
Hi JJJane not intrusive at all! Mine did turn out to be breast cancer however it was very tiny and hadn’t spread. 14 months later and I have finished my treatment and have no further evidence of disease. I also opted for a double mastectomy with recon as I was high risk due to a BRCA 1 gene which I already knew. I won’t say try not to worry as in reality that’s all we do but I would definitely say take 1 day at a time and know that if it turns out to be that when you get there they will have everything planned out and know exactly what they need to do. I found that so reassuring and in a weird way made me feel a lot better. Sending you lots of positive thoughts and hope everything goes well.
Thank you so much for your reply and honesty. I really appreciate you telling your story. I’m so glad to hear you’ve finished treatment with no evidence of disease remaining! Like you say, I’ll take it one day at a time as information gets fed to me. Thank you again for your kind words and I feel reassured that you had such a positive outcome
