Hello I am waiting for a mastectomy and (hopefully) an immediate implant reconstruction. I may need radiotherapy afterwards. I was wondering if anyone had had experience of seeking private treatment so they can be treated earlier?
For context, I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon consultant last week to discuss a DIEP flap but for various reasons, I don't want to proceed with this. I have requested an implant instead but my doctor is currently on leave. He'll consult with the plastic surgeon upon his return. I was diagnosed in July so am getting anxious now.
Hi there, yes I had my mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction on Friday at the Priory in Edgbaston. I had private healthcare insurance with Aviva. I had been diagnosed at NHS breast clinic with DCIS in June and saw plastic surgeon and breast surgeon there but in the end I opted for private care as the surgeon I found and consulted could do the whole procedure rather than me needing 2 separate surgeons. I did my research and was very impressed with his reputation and he is a lovely man. I have to say the care I received at the Priory was top class and although I’ve also received excellent care from NHS several times, having my own private room for this procedure was fantastic. It was very quiet and peaceful and the food was also amazing. My package also includes symmetry work to other breast and nipple reconstruction. I won’t know until biopsy comes back if I’ll need any radiotherapy but if I do that’s also covered .
I hope that helps and good luck with your treatment xx
Hi I had my initial diagnosis and surgery at spire in Solihull. I know that hospital has had issues in the past but the care I had was fantastic. I too checked out my surgeon before I chose him. I went private so I could get sorted quicker and I was less than a month diagnosis to surgery. I then switched back to the NHS for chemo as my insurance is through my work and has a financial cap them went back to private for radiotherapy although this was done at QE in Birmingham.
