Hi, I had breast recon by DIEP (from tummy area) a few years ago. It is a big operation and recovery can be quite slow. There are a number of things you cant do to begin with and you have to take things slowly. You start to see things improve about 2-3 weeks post operation and by 6 weeks post op I was able to drive again and do all my normal things. However, you do have to be patient with yourself. Nonetheless, it is very doable and certainly well worth the hassle. I am extremely pleased with my recon. In a bikini or underwear I look completely the same as before (albeit with a flatter tummy) and all my scars have faded to just thin white lines - the abdominal scar is very very scary to begin with. I have had nipple recon, nipple tattoo and some lipo and refill to give an even better shape. My new boob hangs and looks very much like the other side. I am extremely satisfied with my breast recon and given that I had to have a mastectomy I am extremely pleased I was able to have a DIEP. Good luckXXXXxxxxxxxx
