I’m due to have an appointment with my Oncologist to decide if I want to start taking Abemaciclib alongside Letrozole. I wondered if anyone is taking Abemaciclib and if so what side effects, if any, are you experiencing? I hope to hear from someone in the same position as myself as I have not been able to find out much about the side effects , thank you for reading this
Hello Rosie, I've been taking abemaciclib for 13 months, alongside anastrozole which is similar to letrozole
If you search on this site you will find other threads with lots of info & feedback from others
For me the main issues have been, diarrhoea & change of diet to help with that, fatigue & lifestyle changes to help cope, hair thinning & slow growth, problems with nails.
You are monitored really closely with bloods & reviews which is good but does get repetitive & can feel like no escape from hospital.
I started on max dose but had a reduction in month 7 which helped a little with side effects
I am also having Zoldronic acid infusions every 6 months for 3 years
I'm really hopefully it stops a recurrance so sticking with it all!
You will read some have no or little side effects some lots & have to stop taking it. You can't tell til you start.
Wish you all the best x
I was so worried about the side effects as some could be really severe, but I think it was the timing of starting it made it such a difficult thing, 2 weeks after radiotherapy, I was worn out physically and mentally.....
My hair is thinner and grows slower but I haven't lost it
I decided to try, knowing I could stop if I wanted to, I just try to focus on the benefits!
Best wishes x
I am on exactly this and have been for a year. Side effects vary with each person I think. I am 61, just, some days I feel 91 but others I'm OK. My advice is try to keep moving and keep active. I've also had tummy problems but tbh I got to know what would set it off! Sleep is an ongoing problem as feel tired at the end of the day after work, in bed by 9ish then struggle to stay asleep. It sounds rubbish but it's doable and if I can help anymore please do ask.
