I have breast cancer stage 2, 2 lumps so need 7cm removed from my 36F breast. I have seen 3 surgeons, all suggesting different options and my head is exploding trying to decide which to go for. I dion’t want implants and I do want a breast.. surely there is a best option that sugeons agree on??? I’m no expert!
the second surgeon offered a lumpectomy with reconstruction as the ‘defecit would be too large’ without reduction surgery. He is too busy to fit me in. My latest surgeon says a lumpectomy by going in around tge nipple ( dounghnut mastexomy - sorry if sorkt wrong) would be the option and if I’m not hapoy with the deficit i can undergo further surgery. It stresses me that both doctors are contradicting each other!!!
has anyone had this operation with similar sized breasts and cancer???? What was the result? Am I going to be left with a huge crater???
Hi
I had 2 lumps removed in the same breast, the consultant took 7cm in total,I was offered mastectomy, lumpectomy or therapeutic mammoplasty
I was originally going to opt for a lumpectomy but when discussing it with her she said she didn't think I'd be happy with the result as it was going to alter the shape of my breast very significantly
I decided on therapeutic mammoplasty, which was definitely the right choice for me
My breast is now a lot smaller than my other breast,I have been offered reduction surgery but I've decided not to have it done
I have been given a prosthesis to wear in my bra, which I sometimes wear I'm happy to go without most of the time
All the best to you,and hope all goes well
Take care
Xx
Thank you SO much for your eepky and advice!! It is such a relief to have first hand knowledge. Both surgeons who i have met have sai tge opposire ( one says it will leave a large deficit, tge oyherays iit wont be too noticeable so my head is an absolute mess!). I spent the whole weekend crying, felt like I didn’t trust any of tgem, felt let down and ready to give up. I’ve asked for anotger me
ing to discuss. Thank you!
Wishing you all the very best.
last question - is it much dmaller? What sizeish? Why did you decide notcto go ahead with the other out of interest?
Hi,it's about 3 cup sizes smaller,I didn't want to go through another operation .I'm 59 years old and tbh I'm just happy to have come out the other side,I was so scared about the op but to be honest with you it wasn't half as bad as I was expecting
I had to have axillary lymph clearance too,as the cancer had spread to 2 lymph nodes
This was so much worse for me than the breast surgery
Bless you, always nice to speak to someone who has had similar surgery
You take care
