Bruising after Lumpectomy.

Hi,

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy 5 weeks ago.  The cuts are healing very well and all bruising has gone around the sites.  But there is still dark bruising under the Areola, which does not seem to be fading or changing colour.  Has anyone had the same?  I do bruise easily so it could just be it will take longer to go.  Silly question I know, but you do seem to worry about everything going through this.

  • might be the blue dye boob problem, the dye takes forever yo go

  • Thank you, Djct, yes it might be that.

  • Hi. My bruising was really bad. My entire boob was almost black and it took a good few weeks to fade. I had mine in December 21 and the blue dye is still there x

  • Wow, that’s a long time.  The bruising around the cuts went pretty quick within a couple of weeks, it’s just below were I expect they injected the dye that has not changed.  X

  • As others have said, this sounds more like the blue dye. It lasted around 6  month for me, though faded over that time. My oncologist had warned me about the timescale!

  • I had the same as you, the bruising took awhile to go and it felt lumpy near the wound site, the macmillian nurse assured me it was just part to the healing process. I too still have the blue boob and mark where they put the radioactive trace in. My 15 year old calls it my smurf boob lol...

  • Thank you all for the info.  It does sound like the blue boob.  Lizzyb, I like your sons description of smurf boob. Joy

  • Just an update.  Spoke to my BC nurse today and asked about the bruising.  She said it was probably the Magseed I had inserted that caused the mark.  It looks like a bruise and will fade over time.  I never thought of that to be honest.
