Hi,

I had surgery and radio for dcis + invasive lobular and because oncotype high, about to start chemo and was wondering if anyone had advice.

I’ll be having 3 cycles of epirubicin and cyclophosphamide every 3 weeks and then 3 cycles of docetexal every 3 weeks

thanks

  • Hi you are having exactly the same chemo regime I had except I had four ec and three docetaxel. Advice -

    - keep a diary of side effects and take temp twice a day minimum to Monitor. Helps you notice anything different cycle to cycle and what to tell oncologist.

    - you will have a red card team don't hesitate to use them if you are concerned about anything. And certainly if your temperature starts rising call them immediately.

    - if you are considering using a cold cap remember you have to try on your first cycle. If you don't you can't use at all. I tried it for 2 and a bit cycles but didn't get on with it (felt sick) so I stopped it. Lost all my hair but it's growing back really well already.

    - you will have been told about a whole load of potential side effects. And they are just that potential side effects. You may be lucky as I was and get very few. My main one was constipation. Otherwise I was nowhere near as bad as we feared I might be and prepared for.

    - you will probably be prescribed a range of medications to help with side effects. Use them when you need to. In particular anti sickness before you are actually sick and mouthwash to prevent sore mouth.

Don't be a stranger on here. Hope everything goes ok
