Can anyone advise please should I be concerned I had a lumpectomy 5 weeks ago and have noticed last day or so my nipple is becoming inverted and the outside edge of the areola seems slightly raised . The lumpectomy wasn’t done near the nipple but could it still have affected it . As I’m concerned it could be cancer still
Hi KayMH , sorry you’re having this worry, agree good to get checked but thought I’d pop in to say that my nipple has changed significantly since my lumpectomy. My long incision is not near the nipple at all, it’s down the outside of my breast, but I have ended up with a partially inverted nipple. It was painful for a long time, from straight after my op, got worse during and after radiotherapy, gradually resolving over the following months. I think it started from the injection of blue dye which in my case was given while I was under anaesthetic rather than prior to the op as some people have it. The inversion has been explained to me as a result of the changes in my breast following eviction of the beast/ tumour, pulling the nipple inwards. It’s better than it was but still quite different from the other. I’ve had 5 annual mammograms since my op and all have been clear.
Hope you can get it checked soon as it’s always better to get changes seen by a medic. Love and hugs, HFxx
Thank you I will call the breast care nurse to ask tomorrow but did wonder if it could be the dye or from the op so hope that’s the case xx glad your doing well
