Hi

I’m 8 weeks post mastectomy and have been following my exercises religiously each day, 2 to 3 times a day. However the chest tightness doesn’t seem to be getting any better. My surgeon has suggested physio but I’m expecting the NHS waiting list will be pretty long. So looking for anyone who has gone through physio, how did it go, how many sessions are required etc? Also looking for any private recommendations for physios in the Edinburgh/ Lothians area.

I‘m currently going through radiology - finish on Monday!

thanks

  • Hi

I found the radiotherapy caused a lot of tightness. It adhered my tissue to my chest wall. I had scar massage which was wonderful to help release it . I still get tightness and asked the onco nurse why and she sai some of us will always have it. I like you excersise religiously. Ask team if they think it will help. X

  • Thank you. Was the the hospital that provided the massage or did you do it privately? I just don’t know who to contact if I want to arrange myself. Thanks

  • Hi BethS, as you are going through radiotherapy at the moment like Janemb said that to will cause tightness. Speak with the radiotherapy team, they should be able to help or hopefully refer you to a physio team. If not have a word with your breast care nurse who should be able to help with this. I still have tightness mainly across my shoulder and top of breast. I'm not very good with the exercising, some days I do them and some days not. I need to make more of an effort and I do tell myself off at times

  • Hi

    1. It was through the Macmillan charity they offered 3 free have paid for 2 more since it really does help . It's a soft tissue physio you need they deal with sports injuries a lot of them but some specialise in scars. Hope you get more comfortable soon. XHeart
