Hi There, I hope you are all ok. I've started on Tamoxifen the last couple of weeks. I have done the old 'google up' and thought I would ask the forum.
Am I allowed to drink Alcohol with Tamoxifen. It would be now and again. I used to drink wine but having been diagnosed (Age 50) I am terrified to drink.
I used to enjoy a good bottle of wine at the weekend.
Any advise would be helpful and not taken literally :) Thank you Fizzler
Hi Fixzler, excellent link https://foodforbreastcancer.com/articles/tamoxifen-and-alcohol
I am on Anastrazole and only have a drink very rarely. Not the same as tamoxifen but my Dr said an occasional drink was ok for a special occasion. I was told not to drink too as I enjoyed a small glass with my dinner about 4 times a week. Now it is green tea. On boy!!

Where is the peer reviewed research to say a glass of wine is a no, no when on tamoxifen or any of the aromatase inhibitors? Doctors sometimes just parrot what they think we should do without checking. Everything, bar maybe oestrogen, in moderation.

Did you feel awful the first few days. I do. Has anyone started off taking half a tablet and then gradually increased it xx
I am not on tamoxifen, too old for that drug. I take Anastrazole and have been pretty good. Bad dry mouth at night and sometimes muscle soreness in thighs. Some hot flashes too, And of course the usual sexual side effects dryness, libido low but working on all the side effects and feel fortunate that my life is not miserable as these drugs can do that to some women. I miss my estrogen but I am not willing to risk reoccurrence by taking it.
I hope you can start tolerating the tamoxifen better. The body does not like to be disrupted and may take awhile to adjust. Hugs to you.

Thankyou Barbara. You have done two years letrozolr but the side effects really got me down I will give this tamoxifen a try. I am 64. If I Carnt Cope I will go back on letrozole xx better the devil you know !!!
Alcohol is a known risk factor for initially getting breast cancer and medications like tamoxifen don’t mix well with it. It is a personal choice to consume alcohol but after reviewing all the literature and talking with my physicians I made the decision to only have it rarely.
I certainly don’t miss it that much so when I have a glass of Prosecco or port I savor it and enjoy.
Take care.
