Hi has anyone had zoladex injections? I was advised to have them to protect my ovaries during chemo and stop my periods for the 6 months of treatment to avoid an extra thing to go through every month. However period one post injection one is worst one yet and it’s still going as in still bleeding ten days after started period. Has anyone experienced this? I’m triple negative so not a hormone related cancer. I’m considering not having a second injection….

  • I can understand having zoladex to protect your ovaries, but going through an intense and sudden menopause rather than a period every month doesn't seem like the sensible thing to do. Unless you have really awful periods.

I did have hormone related BC so am sticking with zoladex for 5 years. It took a good 6 months to a year for the menopause symptms to settle to a manageable level.

I'm afraid I don't have any experience with having a prolonged period - mine stopped straight away, but I had already had one chemo cycle when I started zoladex.

How long ago did you have th injection? My side effects started almost exactly 3 weeks after the first injection.

    Good luck with it all.

  • Thanks yea I think they said it would protect my ovaries also but I’m unsure if they are protected anyway now given that I’ve had a period whilst on the injection. Injection was second week of chemo and I’m having weekly chemo carbo and abraxane and was immunotherapy but now I’ve had to come off the immuno. Just hard to know if it’s worth carrying on with the next injection tomorrow

  • Im on zoladex to suppress ovaries also as i am 33, my oncologist said he wanted to avoid a full menopause at my age but a  temporary one may preserve my fertility. I am her2 positive. I started mine the week of my first chemo and had a period that month (feb) i havent had one since (july)

    Hope this helps
