Anastrozole - is there a 'best' time to take it?

Hello everyone, I had a single mastectomy 4 weeks ago without reconstruction and I'm healing well and feeling positive. I have just started on Anastrozole after confirmation nothing had gone into the lymph nodes, so no radio or chemo. I wonder how others have got on with this drug? I've read all about the side effects and so far I've taken it at lunch time and found I've felt really tired in the afternoons. Could be just normal recovery as I'm a lot more active now in the mornings, or could it be the drug? I'm wondering would I be better to take it in the evenings as could do with sleeping better anyway! Interested in anyone's experiences. Hope you're all doing ok out there and sending love to everyone xx

  • Hi, glad to hear you are recovering well

I take mine at bed time but not sure if there is an optimal time tbh.

    Best wishes x

  • It could still be your recovery after surgery. It's hard to put it done to just one thing. I take mine in the morning at breakfast time. I am at about week 6 of taking it. I find energy levels are generally ok throughout the day. And sleep isn't too bad... Well apart from the duvet being thrown off and on for the odd hot flush. Good luck trying to find what works for you.

  • Hi,  I've been taking it for just over a year now and take it as soon as I wake up.  Touch wood no major side affects,  I was tired for maybe 3 or 4 months at beginning but put it down to Radiotherapy, I get hot flushes which is really annoying as didn't get them through my first natural menopause...lol.  I hope you get on okay with it and get no issues. X

  • Hi. Pleased to hear your recovery is going well. I have been on Anastrozole for about a year now and take it in the morning immediately before breakfast. This way it helps me to remember to take it at more or less the same time each day. Wishing you all the best.

  • Hi  , I’m another Anastrozole pill popper, and I also take it when I wake up to make sure I don’t forget. I don’t know if there’s any medical advice re best timing but felt I might forget if it was during the day, and like to take it with a big mug of water so wouldn’t choose to drink that much just before going to bed. Love and hugs, HFxx
