Last week I was lucky enough to finish 2weeks of radiotherapy marking the end of my acute treatment for breast cancer. I am feeling very tired though and had to take the week off work. The tiredness isn't too bad but if I do anything I end up having to lay down afterwards. Is this normal? I wasn't expecting it as my oncologist said I should work through my radiotherapy. Although the tiredness isn't too bad it isn't getting better and I can't see myself having enough energy to work next week. What should I expect over the next few weeks? I feel really guilty about not working as when I rest I feel fine.

  • Hi Evergreen123

It's not unusual to feel so tired after treatment.  Your body needs time to adjust after going though so much. Try not to be too hard on yourself, not easy at times I know..

    Best wishes

  • Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling so tired, but from my experience that is totally normal. I would consider taking some time off work to recuperate, you have been through a lot Two hearts

    Take care, best wishes x

  • Hi Evergreen well done for getting through it. Everyone is different so it is important to be kind to yourself..Listen to what your body is telling you. I have just finished radiotherapy and I am tired all the time but also finding it difficult to sleep! Take the time you need to recover x

  • Hi are you trying to work full time hours? Is it worth having a chat and seeing if you can work less hours. I have worked through both my chemo and radiotherapy. However it has been at reduced hours but still on full pay as I get 6 months minimum full pay sickness. I am feeling more tired after my radiotherapy.

  • Hi petrolhead. I tried to keep working but after full axillary node clearance it was impossible. Unfortunately I had a lot of infections and was in and out of dressings clinic 2 or 3 times a week. IThinkings probably that I am just run down and side effects from Letrozole also appear to have kicked in! After 15 years being post menopausal I have just started periods again ThinkingThinkingThinking

  • Oh joy return of periods. Just what youm needed NOT!! Take care xx
