Hi all,

im 8 months in from lumpectomy and 5x radiotherapy, thankfully no chemotherapy. All managed fairly well or as expected anyway. It’s the Letrozole for me, been taking for 6 months last 3 on Accord as requested by me but it’s the night time aches and pains, I can’t turn over in bed without waking up and groaning! All fine once I’m up and moving just wondering if anyone has any suggestions maybe on time to take? Do I just put up with it and be grateful for how far I’ve come?

  • I'm suffering terrible with joint and muscle pain in the day, just been to see my gp they've prescribed me some painkillers to help.my pains get worse as the day progresses, feet and legs swell too

  • Sorry you’re suffering with all that too, I’m not so bad in the day but I do have to keep moving and try and walk every day if I can. Painkillers don’t seem to help me with the muscle aches and stiffness during the night, I might try taking first thing in the morning rather than last thing at night and see if it makes any difference. Take care hope the painkillers help x

  • Hi

I've been on Letrozole September last year. I also suffer with 'bone ache' mainly in the legs and arms. I take co-codamol daily to take the edge off. I also have  a strange feeling in my finger and toes as though they are in a vice. Strange I know!!!  I was on Capecitabine until May this year so it could still be because of that treatment and may go. I did mention it (Bone ache) to my oncologist during the phone call consultations but just told that unfortunately it is one of the side effects Shrug

I think this is the case for most of us on Letrozole!?

  • H, yes I was also told that unfortunately it is a side effect of Letrozole by my oncologist but to try different brands to find one that suits most. I’ve landed on Accord which isn’t much different to the others but I’m hoping sticking with it for a while might lessen the effects! Fingers crossed for us all that time might make these symptoms easier.
Take care and hope the aching bones feel easier soon x

  • I've been on letrozole since April and already having joint and. Muscle pains and aches.

The consultant has put me on ibandronic acid but the side effects of this are worse. Been at a and e with chest pains and everything.

The consultant says he wants me to try and stay on letrozole for at least 5 years and ibandronic acid for 3. So if anyone has any ideas to reduce side effects be really helpful.

I'm on painkillers max take antacids after every meal and a stomach protector each day bit still struggling and another 5 to 7 years to go

Is there any evidence these actually prevent reoccurance

    Advise. Would be good

  • Ask to try exemestane, I found it slightly better x

  • Is that a make or alternative to letrozole as chemist says I can't choose a brand have to have what they can get

  • It is an alternative aromatase IE reduces oestrogens. It works slightly differently from letrozole. It isn't a panacea. My osteoarthritis is still far worse than it was pre cancer BUT I don't get the pain in my hands any more.

    Ask you oncologist.xxx

  • I asked my GP to request Accord on the prescription which he happily did and my pharmacy has so far obliged. I had 4 different brands for the first few months now I’m hoping my body gets used to the same one and the aches get easier. Definitely worth asking your GP. Take care
