I’m due to have implant surgery in august on the left side. I was wondering if anyone can help in the post surgery bras? Are there any that people recommend and do you need to go up a size to account for the swelling?
I bought these from M&Sand was very pleased with them. They gave great support after my lumpectomy.. Flexifit Post Surgery Full Cup Bra A-H
If you go to M&S, they have a free bra fitting service specifically aimed at post surgery bras. Rather than going up a size, you actually want the bra to fit you now, as it will help against swelling.
Good luck with your surgery. <3
I had a mastectomy without reconstruction a few months ago and used a post surgery bra from Anita Cares range with a zip up the front. It was really comfortable and soft, so I'd highly recommend it. My sister is due to have a preventative mastectomy with immediate in a couple of weeks (because we have a BRCA1 mutation) and I sent her my post-surgery bra, plus she had a fitting at a local store and took it along to check and they were very helpful in advising what size to buy and what in general she should look to have for after her op.
They have a store locator on the Anita website, and you can search by 'breast care' to find shops that have a good selection near you (not only Anita but different brands). My sister found a great store, rang up to make an appointment (you usually always need an appt), and she felt so much more at ease afterwards knowing that she's now 'prepared' for her operation and she could ask lots of questions rather than being unsure if she had the right thing. The lady even gave her some to take away that she could try post op to see what fits best and return after if unused. Here is the Anita website in case you want to see if there's anything good near you: www.anita.com/.../store-locator
I had implant surgery too, swelling is really common, especially in the first few weeks after surgery. I personally found it helpful to have something more adjustable rather than buying lots of bras in different sizes. I didn’t size up, if you dont know your cup size, just start with your band size . I massively recommend H.E.R Bodywear post-surgery bras they are so soft and stretchy and have a extended hook and eye fastening at the back which makes them more adjustable. The bras fasten at the front and the back which is a lifesaver ater surgery. It’s a small independent brand founded by somewone who’s actually had breast cancer twice, so everything is designed from real experience and you can tell. . They’re also unbelievably soft and dont irritate on sore skin after surgery. I tried the other usual post-surgery options (including M&S) but when I tell you nothing compares to H.E.R Bodywear hero bras. honestly, these were on another level for comfort . They made me feel supported and comfortable when i needed it most
I haven't actually received my treatment plan for my cancer challenge. However in a long discussion with my lovely breast cancer care nurse she explained to me that, if I would like, she wouldxrefer me to the breast care specialist department for things like bras, wigs etc.
The staff in that department are highly trained specialist who advise, support and offer tips on how to buy a suitable bra etc.
I would ask your breast care team at hospital to be referred to their specialist services
Good luck, gentle hugs from me x
I guess it depends which hospital you're at, I've heard through some of my other support groups that the bra fitters at hospitals are often trained in one particular style or brand. So it normally comes down to who they have a partnership with. My hospital fitted me with a Trulife Barbra bra and i hated it. I've done a lot of shopping around and tried so many styles and the best one for me personally was the H.E.R Bodywear one. Xx
