So I have a lumpectomy, SLNB and therapeutic mammoplasty (left breast only) booked in for 26.6.23.

I went for my pre op today to be told I have a heart murmur (first I've heard of this in 46 years). I've been told I will need an urgent ECHO....but now panicking whether realistically this can be done next week....feeling very anxious now!

Anyone been in a similar position?

  • Hi   so sorry to hear this, but in the positive side, best to know and get it checked out. I've not come across this before, but you can always give the lovely team at Macmillan a call and have a chat, their number is 0800 808 0000.  Best wishes for your scan

  • Hi Choccygirl, I was diagnosed with a heart murmur over 30 years ago and have undergone chemo, surgery, radiotherapy and now on Kadcyla for 14 sessions.  Although I have regular ECG due to Herceptin the heart murmur has not interfered with any of my treatments,  wishing you the best of luck, hope this info helps.  Big hugs, Mimosa x

  • Thanks Mimosa for your reply...which really does reassure me.  I have an ECHO booked in for this Friday....so  just hoping nothing is revealed that puts a stop to my lumpectomy surgerybooked in for Monday...onwards and upwards eh?

  • So lumpectomy has been cancelled as anaesthesitist does not have time to review the echo results before Monday....gutted..just feels like the wait is never ending. Biopsed on 26.4. official diagnosis 5.5...so already 7 weeks from diagnosis and no operation date now...could literally cry....

  • Yes, I would feel exactly the same. The feeling of not having any control over these things is something that crops up on this forum all the time. Did the radiographer (maybe wrong label) give you any idea of what could be seen? My one did - I had to have one pre-chemo. I really hope that you get a new date very soon. Xx
