Hi all,

I’m six weeks post WLE surgery (DCIS and small - grade 1a - tumour) and SNB (all clear). I’m waiting for a radiotherapy appointment next week to schedule treatment but having spoken to breast care nurse today am looking at a wait that will put me beyond 12 weeks. Has anyone in a similar situation looked into going private? Any idea of costs? Or any other advice? Today’s news about waits is just making my brain ache.

  • Hello,  I live in US and had lumpectomy in mid November 2021 and then due to scheduling and Dr. s getting sick had second lumpectomy on the other breast in Mid February 2022.  Needed radiation but radiation oncologist wanted to radiate both breasts at same time to prevent overlap. So I started radiation at 16 weeks and my tumor left breast was Stage 1 and ki 67 of 5 so slow growing.    My right breast was DCIS.  Radiation oncologist said since my issues were not aggressive he was confident all was fine.

If you are Estrogen positive and worried about delay they can always start you on either tamoxifen if premenopausal or aromatase inhibitor if post menopausal.  They would have done that if I would have had longer delay.
I hope that eases your mind as the 12 weeks is a guideline but not set in stone.
    Take care.

  • Thank you   - I’m already slated for Tamoxifen but was planning to do one thing at a time. Maybe that’s next…

  • It was about that time scale for me. My op was 7th Dec saw oncologist on 31st Jan when my resultsPray were back. Radiotherapy started last week in Feb. Started Letrozole when I saw oncologist.

  • Thank you Pray   How was radiotherapy for you? X

  • I had 5 sessions. They mark you up and do the checks to start with. It was ok. I found it fascinating. I had a bit of redness and sl burning but nothing too bad. Used Aveeno non perfumed.
