Hi all. Just when I was getting over the tiredness after 5 days of radiotherapy for early breast cancer, my skin has gone rogue and I have a tear underneath my breast where it joins my chest. An awkward spot. Have been given polymem non adhesive dressing I'm folding over, as the nurse did, placing it in and wearing a crop top to try to keep it in place. Which of course it isn't always doing.
Feeling embarrassingly sorry for myself.
Has anyone else had the same? What worked for you? I'm hoping it doesn't turn in to something intractable.
Hi Grassisgreener welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear how you are feeling and I can empathise as i had the same and it is so sore especially in this weather where we sweat a lot. I saw the Practice Nurse and she gave me Mepilex adhesive dressing and a cream that had silver in it I think, as I think this is known to heal wounds like these in difficult areas.
It will heal up nicely and take a few days so keep an eye on it and go back and see them again if you are still concerned.
Hi Grassisgreener , sorry you’re having this issue, I had redness there but thankfully the skin held. But others here have definitely had this, and I think one of them might have been lovely Grogg who I’ve just tagged as I’m sure I’ve read some great suggestions from her in the past. I think they involved panty liners! But hopefully she’ll see this and respond with good advice. Sending love and a gentle virtual hug, HFxx
HappyFeet1 im here
Grassisgreener I did indeed have this issue. It's skin on skin burns and tends to affect larger breasted ladies - I'm a G cup. . The radiotherapy unit gave me special dressing but they stuck to my skin, I had to improvise over weekend and used a panty liner under a wire free bra. It worked so well staying in place . The sticky side goes to your bra, It stops the moisture which can stink ! I saw my BCN on the monday and she laughed but said if it works! She gave me flamazine cream as it was a bit wet and smelly but within a few days it was looking much better. I continued using a liner to keep it dry and protected for a week or so I think - it was 8 years ago.
i didn't have a mastectomy but still bought 2 post surgery bras as they were soft inside and lined with cotton and the wire free bras I'd found in G cup were not soft on skin but I found wearing a stretchy step into bra hood under ordinary bra t stop any friction. Aloe Vera kept in fridge and applied a few times a day on red skin that hadn't broken is soothing too.
It's ok to feel sorry for yourself, it's been a rough few months physically & mentally.
Hello HappyFeet1 thanks for your kind reply and for passing this on to Grogg . Best wishes.
