I am having a wide local excision with sentinel lymph node biopsy on 25/5/23. I was scheduled for a day stay but today received a letter changing my surgery from afternoon list to morning but now as an overnight stay, has made me very anxious, can anyone suggest possible reasons for this change
I was booked for afternoon list day surgery. I chose to stay in as a precaution when I came back to watd
It sounds like they are following the rules then. You could tell them about your arrangements. I was glad I stayed in, but we are all different.
Thanks for your reply, I’m probably freaked out for nothing but it’s the third time my plan has been changed.Did it make things easier for you staying overnight?
To be honest it was probably more disturbing as I didn't sleep brilliantly and the observations kept disturbing. However wasn't sure how I would.be after anaesthetic and my husband felt better with me staying in.
I understand that, I’ve never slept well in hospital, hope you’re doing well now, think I’ll query it ,maybe it’ll help if I know why x
For me, it was definitely better. I had a mastectomy and axillary clearance at the same time and I slept a lot after being brought back onto the ward. Later on, the nurse gave me apple juice (which really helped) and it was nice to be given a cuppa when I woke up, plus some toast. We were all treated to fish and chips and chatted together (4 ladies in a side ward) before being discharged.
