Hi, I’m new to this forum, just been diagnosed with a 2nd cancer, breast cancer & having op on 16th to remove the lump.

Last March it was found that I had a rare cancer thyroid cancer in my abdomen been a long haul getting that sorted 3 ops and treatment in November just getting over that and then it was found on a PET scan that I had breast cancer.

The first cancer has been with me since 2009 but I was never told never followed up, St James’ looked at my old pathology slides to check & it was found to be malignant then, I still haven’t got it round my head that I wasn’t diagnosed correctly and had been left for 13yrs!

My life at the moment is on hold again in limbo so many things have changed including me having to come off HRT and bang straight back into menopause, can’t stop being irritated by everything, please tell me it’s normal?

  • I am so sorry this has happened to you. How horrible to discover the first cancer was not detected at first biopsy. I know it must be heartbreaking being diagnosed with breast cancer after all you have been through but I am sure you will come through this. Unfortunately many of us on here are suffering with side effects  from Hormone Therapy so you will get lots of sympathy.

  • Hi there Pauline,

Just wanted to check in with you as a fellow ST James person - have you been over to the Maggies Centre there next to the multi-story car park. There is lots of support available there and its a lovely place even just to sit and have a cuppa inbetween appointments.

And yes - I think it’s very normal to feel irritated . Build in some nice treats for yourself if you can and try and get outside every day, even if it’s raining. I have found it helps soothe the troubled nerves.

  • Hi Jan, thank you! No not been able to visit maggies as of yet scheduling & weekends get in the way!

St James have been wonderful with the first cancer and so thorough.

I try to be chilled out & clean which keeps my mind off it but health issues don’t allow much which I hate.

    onwards & upwards xx
