Hi all,

Does anyone have any tips on coping with the hot flushes from Tamoxifen? Or give me hope that they don't last toooooo long Fingers crossed

My Oncologist suggested changing the time of day I take them so I get the flushes during the day so they don't wake me at night, but unfortunately now I'm getting them day and night

I can't have HRT, so i'm after natural remedies and coping tips if anyone has any,

thanks in advance

A xx

p.s. saving a fortune on heating costs so there is one bonus.

  • Hi I've tried morning and night with my tamoxifen but I find that not drinking yo much coffee helps I substitute coffee with warm juice or herbal tea after 5pm seems to help most of the time but mine varies from day to day and iv3 been taking them for nearly 2 years now hope this helps and your flushes get better I had them all the time at first so they jave got better over the 2 years xx

  • thank you, at least they slow down.

I'm a big coffee drinker, so been cutting down and switching to de-caff and decaff tea.

Will look at herbal options for bed-time

  • Hi there are things your GP can prescribe for you. I take venlafaxine which is a form of anti depressant but helps with hot flushes. I also cut out caffeine which really helps.

  • thank you, was thinking of asking GP, but as a last resort, I have the most amazing GP & practice team who I totally trust, but I take so much medication already I was hoping to avoid anything else.

  • Hello WelshWalker,  Sorry to hear that you are  flushing from tamoxifen.  That is no fun.  I am taking Anastrazole for a year now and was pretty good for about 9 months but now I am having some hot flashes and night sweats.  Saw a new medical oncologist the other day and got to really talk in depth with the Nurse Practitioner and we talked about it.  She gave me sample of Relizen which is hormone free and plant based.  I have only taken it for 2 days so cannot give a review but I am going to order some and really try it out.  Also told her my sex drive was lost and needed help!!  Gave me samples of Ristela also plant based and hormone free as I cannot have any estrogen etc.  Says on bottle that can take at least 2 months to see results.  Other sample is Revaree vaginal moisturizer which is suppose to help my dry Sahara desert in vagina.  Those are all my tips and tricks.

Take care and hope you can cool down.   Watched the Coronation today and here in US we don’t have anything like it.  Was beautiful and extravagant for sure.

  • thank you Barbara for your tips x

and yes, the Coronation was pretty spectacular

  • I have just got a bladless neck fan from Amazon and I put it on as soon as I feel a flush coming on, I love it, also got a bloom ball which u put in fridge and stays cold for 6 hours so using that at night

  • thank you, I've just googled bloom ball and will definitely get one. I've got a handheld fan which helps, but don't use it at night due to the noise

  • Morning Welsh Walker, the reason I love the neck fan is as soon as I feel a flush coming I can put it on and I can carry on with whatever I was doing as my hands are free, mine has 3 speeds, on low it's fairly quiet, noisy on higher levels, so good in this current heat as well. I checked the reviews as some brands don't hold the charge for as long, hope you manage to keep cool today

  • Hi  , I’m on Anastrozole rather than tamoxifen but similar effects re hot flushes. I had a 6 week course of weekly ear acupuncture sessions at the Maggie’s centre at Addenbrookes and it definitely helped. Could do with a refresher course as it was 4 years ago! I’ve kept in touch with 2 friends I met in the group - I call them my hormonally deranged buddies! - they are both on tamoxifen and also noticed a big improvement. We found that although they didn’t stop altogether, they were less intense and more bearable. Could be worth checking if there’s a Maggie’s centre near you. Good luck with it! Love and hugs, HFxx
