I found a lump in my left breast. This breast has affectionately been known as ‘The Awkward Tit’ as is doubled in size over the course of a week a few years back - I went through the 2 week fast track & a couple of monthly follow ups. It turned out that my body was being stupid and decided to grow it. Shrug tone2‍ which was both terrifying and frustrating - but I was glad nothing sinister was found at the time.

I was on a waiting list for an augmentation but I took myself off as other issues arose in life and frankly I didn’t have the brain capacity to deal with it then. So me and the awkward tit have carrd on. Just little and large as my lovely matching boobs are now known! Hubby has been incredibly supportive- if not too happy to get the best of both worlds Rofl bless him.

anyway - I guess I’m just wondering if anyone had noticed any other symptoms before they were diagnosed or before they found the change/lump in their breast. I’ve recently found a small lump, not as big as a grape but definitely bigger than a baked bean. I saw my gp on Wednesday and he has referred me on - but advised me that clinics are running slow so it may not be within the two weeks that I’m seen - if anything changes to go back and he will push them for me - I’m happy with that for now.

I’ve never had any lumps fluctuating with my menstrual cycles or anything before and I’m 36 with no kids, never been on birth control and could definitely lose weight to be in a healthy bmi range, so those are some factors my gp told me aren’t in my favour. I have chronic illnesses anyway, but have noticed some things are different in the last few months and wondered if it’s coincidental or could be related to this new lump?!

To be quite honest, I’m very much a go with the flow - if it’s there, it’s there and I will do what I can to fight, but I don’t know if that’s naive, stupid or just my own personal thing now as I’m thrown so many curveballs with my health, it almost wouldn’t be a shock for it to be a cancer?! If that makes sense. Of course I’m still anxious about the whole thing so I’m reading lots and trying to find out what I can etc so at least I’m halfway clued up either way.

hope everyone is doing well given the nature of this forum.

take care.

  • Hi E

I'm sorry to hear the issues you've had, well done for finding the lump: lots of women don't self-examine at all! It's important to note that 90% of breast lumps don't turn out to be cancer, so statistically yours more likely to be benign than not, especially in view of your age. But essential to get it checked so I hope you are seen soon.

I had no specific symptoms before I found my lump apart from slightly more fatigue than usual, but I have an extremely stressful job and a young child, so looking back I am not sure whether the extra tiredness was real or just the benefit of hindsight!

Best of luck with your appointment and I hope it turns out to be good news for you!

  • Thank you for your reply. I’m fairly sure it’s nothing  serious too, but just don’t want to bet on it being nothing serious as that is counting chickens. Joy
I sound so pessimistic but I’m just trying to be sensible, and be prepared I think either way.

I’m fatigued a lot of time but it is something I’ve noticed more lately, so it’s funny you should mention it. I think life in general can do that though so it is really one of those ‘hmm maybe, maybe not’ symptoms isn’t it!?

I do hope you are doing much better now and I’m really grateful for the reply! Xx

  • Hi E , I too found a lump last Wednesday 3.5.23 I’ve been referred and have just had my appointment come through for next Wednesday 17th. I got told there may be a wait so was surprised how quick it came .
I know it’s hard to not panic I’m the queen of that !!
I had a lump 2 years ago in my other side and it was a cyst so I’m trying to keep positive, but I am counting down the days to the appointment. Fingers crossed you get your appointment asap x
