Hi I have been diagnosed with DCIS and ILC stage 1 grade 2 - had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy ( which was negative) now oncologist has put me on tamoxifen & not letrozole (as I have osteopenia ) - read side effects which details retinal Issues - I already have had 2 retinal tears so I am worried - has anyone experienced problems with their eyes taking this hormonal therapy ?

  • Hi, I had lumpectomy and SNB ( also neg) 2 yrs ago followed by chemo and herceptin plus a week  of radiotherapy , now on letrozole for past 18 months. I have  been  having uveitis for last 6 months that the Dr's keep saying is due to inflammation in my body as I also have  ulcerative colitis and the 2 conditions are very common together.  I have had colitis for  10yrs now and been  well controlled so I'm  not so sure that it is not the letrozole despite what the Dr's are telling me.  I think most of these drugs can cause eye problems so it is difficult to know what do for for the best, good luck !!

  • Thanks for your reply - uveitis us a known side effect of letroxole - I had uveitis after my cataract surgery and it took ages to go away - good luck - I guess I will just have to wait and see !!

  • Hello Lidi,  when I went on Anastrazole I did read about retinal issues as have had retinal detachment at age 30 and had sclera buckle but also had a tear in each eye in my 60’s and had repairs and vitrectomy in each eye.  Well asked my retinal doctor and he told me not to worry as I was in good shape so I am ok on it.  Can you check with your eye doctor as it could ease your mind?
