Hi all, its been about 4 weeks since my Radiotherapy and I  have developed a sore rash and open wound under my breast, has anyone used a hydrocortisone cream before to help heal the sore?

  • Hi, that sounds nasty, I would speak to your breast care nurse, they may want to see you & give you some treatment x

  • I was given an ointment to use if that happened - best to call the breast care nurse as you want to use the best cream/ointment or did your radiotherapy team give you a contact number?

I found the after effects of radio very demoralising when I felt I’d finished but the effects were delayed. Once it started healing it healed fast though so hang in there. Better times are coming.

  • It's skin on skin burns and very common. Ring your BCN and she will sort you out with cream.  Mean time if you've no dressings a sanitary towel / panty line underneath breast will keep it dry and protected.  Mine cleared quickly with cream and protective dressing

  • Hi, look up R1 R2 by Radiaderm! It’s just become available without prescription

  • I thought I’d escaped any major reactions but 3 weeks I after rads, radiation rash from the top of my boob to my shoulder.  I’ve been using 1% hydrocortisone.  If it’s been super itchy I’ve also been taking antihistamine.

id definitely have your open sore looked at, sounds nasty.

  • Update saw my GP, her suggestion was camomile!  Make a cuppa tea and use as cold compress.  I was thinking there might have been something more high tech than that!
