I’ve just received an NHS message inviting me for a spring covid booster. I’m concerned about having a covid booster while on Amebaciclib. Has anyone received boosters while on it. Also has anyone received advice from oncology about this? Don’t know wether to just book it, ignore it, or ask oncology, worried!
I would really appreciate to hear from others who have either had or refused covid boosters while on amebaciclib and what was the response from their oncologist. many thanks. Xx
Hi Mibby, I’m not on amebaciclib so I can’t answer about covid booster with that drug. I think the best person to ask would be your oncologist or breast care nurse. They should be able to advise when the best time for a covid booster would be.
When I was on chemo I was advised to have my covid booster just before I was due to start my next chemo session when my blood cells would have been boosted more.

Hi F1 petrolhead, it’s great you have booked your covid booster, but if you are unsure about it check with your oncologist or breast care nurse as they will be able to advise when the best time during your treatment is to have it.

Thanks Cuffcake, I’m on a break from Abemaciclib until Wednesday week due to bad side effects. Maybe it could be a good idea to get the covid jab whilst on this break. I hate bothering the oncology nurses but I think you are right, I should get in touch. Best wishes to you xx
Interesting what you say about having it just before next cycle. I have mine booked for next Saturday and next cycle is following Thursday.. I will check with nurses when I go for line flush this week
It's not easy hen on different drugs, I double checked it was OK to have the booster, I worry that I am going to have something horrible happen lol
Sorry to hear you have been unwell. Hope you get on better with the lower dose. I've just started on 100mg twice a day to see if the fatigue & diarrhoea will improve
Best wishes x
I’m pleased they agreed to reduce it for you after all. I hope you tolerate it better. I didn’t want to hear it as I’ve suspected it for some time but the last oncology appointment the word high risk was muted. I’m a head in the sands type so wanted to avoid hearing that.
Anyway, fingers crossed for you that you do well on 100mg. Best wishes. Xx
Funnily enough I had to get myself in the priority list via my GP and being on Abemiciclib is what entitles me to get the spring booster as that’s the thing making me vulnerable.
