Hi I’m new to this forum and not very good online, computers weren’t invented when I was at school.
I had breast cancer surgery in September 22, a lumpectomy and 1 lymph node removed- which was clear. Oestrogen receptor positive
I was then given Letrozole followed by 5 days of radiotherapy 6 weeks later.
My growth was only 5mm and was found at my routine mammogram, I have been very fortunate.
My problem is the side effects of the Letrozole which I’m finding very difficult to deal with.
I am at present on a 6 week break from the Letrozole and have to decide what I want to do next.
I know there are another 2 aromatase inhibitors but they have the exact same ingredients.
It has also been mentioned the different brands, and coatings HELP.
I know no one can tell me what to do, but any advice or your experiences would really be appreciated.
TIA
Hello BonnieLucy, I was also prescribed Letrozole for 5 years and have been taking it for a month now. I’ve had some of the side affects, a UTI, something I have not had for many many years. Bone pain, my hair is also getting very thin.
I get pins and needles in my fingers mainly at night and I don’t sleep very well either.
I am going to persevere with it for a little longer and then will speak to my Oncologist to see if there is anything better.
I definitely feel that I cannot stay on it for 5 years with the side affects that I am currently getting.
Maybe speak with your Oncologist or BC nurses, they may be able to advise you. Good luck x
Hi Valleyside,
Thank you very much for your reply.
I hope you get rid of your side effects soon, from your response I see you have been on Letrozole for 1 month.
I was told by a nurse that it takes 3 months to get ifully in to your system.
I have been taking it for 5 months
I don’t think it’s the one for me.
I have spoken to my surgeon who has told me to take a break from it for 6 weeks, we will then decide what the next step will be.
All the best xx
Hi I tried letrozole for about 6 months I was then put on aromasin (exemestane) with some marginal improvement.
Good luck x
Thank you for your reply. I think I may have to go down that route. xx
