In a couple of weeksI will be going for my first annual review since my treatment concluded. I am wondering what happens. Presumably there is the joy of a mammogram? Do you then have to wait for results or can they tell you then and there? Is it usual to see anyone else e.g. oncologist? I feel well but I have definitely lost strength and tire more easily than I used to. My shoulders ache but I think this may be the effect of Letrozole. Perhaps this is usual? If anyone has had the experience and wishes to share I would love to hear from you. Thank you for reading this message and I hope that everyone's treatment is going well.
Hi, I had my 1st annual mammogram a few weeks ago on my remaining breast. I phoned for results after a couple of weeks as anxious & was told all OK, letter followed.
It is a difficult time, brought back a lots bad memories anxiety but all done now.
Saw my surgeon too as they wanted to check my reconstruction, was done 8 mths ago. See them again in July.
I think all hospitals vary, but it is good that they keep such a close eye on us
Hope all goes well for you
Best wishes x
Hi Thirds
I had my first annual mammogram last year and I had a meeting with my breast surgeon two weeks afterwards. He examined my breasts and then told me that there was no evidence of disease. I'm due to have my second annual mammogram sometime this month.
Best of luck with your mammogram and your results.
Best wishes

Hi Thirds , arrangements seem to vary from place to place but in my case I have an annual mammogram (number 5 this summer) followed by an appointment 2 weeks later with surgeon. Results of mammogram are discussed (so far so good) and offered a physical examination. Much as I hate the prodding (bad boob is still tender after all this time!) I welcome it as further reassurance that it all seems ok. Definitely phone your breast nurse team if you’d like clarification. I take paracetamol before my mammograms (if I remember) as I find that side more painful than the other. I’m small up top so they have to scrape me into the clamps!! But over quickly.
Good luck with it all, do let us know how it goes. Love and hugs, HFxx
Thank you HappyFeet1. At least I know what to expect now. Sadly my breast care nurse was not the best. I only saw her on the day I was diagnosed and found her impossible to contact after that. I have managed without and it has been OK. Hope you stay well. Take care
Hi Thirds , sorry your breast care nurse hasn’t been helpful. I don’t have a specific one but I have a number for the team where I can leave a message and someone rings me back. Could be worth just phoning the clinic just to clarify what will actually happen? Each yearly check up is a stressful enough time I think without not being sure what will be happening xxx
I only get a mammogram annually, and they just send me the appointment, I go along, then I get the results through the post a couple of weeks later.
However, I am having zoledronic acid infusions every 6 months and I always get a telephone call before that from the oncology pharmacist. They talk through what I'm experiencing on the all the drugs I'm on, and suggest any tweaks if needed. I have to have bloods done a couple of days beforehand and if they're OK (always have been), then they let me know my infusion time, usually the same day.
Thank you HappyFeet1. I did try phoning the team and they said that they would get her to contact me. She did not, so I just got on with it lol. Take care, stay well.
Thank you for your response Beatthebreast. Fortunately I do not have to have zoledronic acid infusions. I think that my sever reaction to docetaxel frightened everyone. I certainly found it so. At least I know what to expect now. I hope that you stay well and I do appreciate you responding to me. TAke care and stay well.
