Hi, I had a mastectomy 3 weeks ago, on my follow up appointment they had clear margins on the breast tissue but said I had micrometastatic in lymph nodes the done a slnb and removed 2 nodes, I had a grade 2 invasive with high grade DCIs, wondering if anyone has been through similar and what treatment they had, waiting to see the oncologist. Thank you

  • Hi there, I had a mastectomy 6 months ago & pathology showed a micrometastasis in my sentinel lymph node.  I had chemo after surgery as my cancer was a high grade (grade 3), > 2cm  & only weakly er+.

They did not seem too concerned about the micromet.  When I asked about this specifically, they said that it is not significant in terms of prognosis and is treated the same as a negative node.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment xx

  • Hi. I have a similar story to Meanegg ... grade 3 all contained within the breast and SLNs showing slight micromet. My mastectomy was at the end of January and I had the pathology results a couple of weeks ago. My consultant is not at all concerned about the SLN result and is confident that he removed all of the cancer. Where I differ is that my cancer was ER+ and so I am Letrozole for the next 5 years+ ... so far not too many side effects! Take care Xxx

  • Hi

I had a lumpectomy in April last year and one of the two sentinel lymph nodes removed showed a small amount of micromets. Because my breast cancer was triple negative and grade 3, the oncologist recommended that I had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He did say that some hospitals count micromets as being a negative node but he preferred to err on the side of caution and was happy to offer adjuvant chemo and radiotherapy.

  • Sorry to be nosy  but did you have chemo too or were you able to escape that? I haven’t come across many with a similar diagnosis to me so curious to see how other hospitals treat it.

My biopsy sample was strongly ER+ so Onc recommended that I also have Letrozole even though final histology showed a level 4 (out of 8) for oestrogen.  I started it 2 weeks ago & am feeling ok so far - scared of horrible side effects from it but other than a tender ankle joint which seems a bit better the last few days, I have been fine on it so far but Fingers crossed I hope you continue to do well on it too :)

  •  ... I am happy to share, so you're not being nosey. No chemo was advised. I did have some involvement in my treatment plan though ... hospital originally wanted to do a lumpectomy followed by radiology, but I discussed the cancer and my other health conditions with them and they agreed with me that mastectomy was the best option. I had a cancerous lump and two suspicious areas, which also turned out to be cancer too as the post-op pathology showed. I am having some side effects from the Letrozole, but the hospital have asked that I give it a couple of weeks to see if the situation eases.

I hope that you continue to do well too. Xxx

  • Hi ladies, thanks for the reply all sounds similar to me, was er, pr positive both 8, the cancer had spread around the breast and was grade 3 also I didn’t say this is a reacurrance from 10 yeaHearts ago completely different cancer from the 1st, it’s comforting in a strange sort of way …to talk to ladies who have been in similar situations you get what I am saying thank you all for the reHeartly’s and good luck ladies with your recovery Heart️‍ x

  • Patricia

    what was your outcome?
    did you need. Chemo?
im grade 2 erNd or strongly positive with 8/8

    slnb shows micromets.

I don’t know my treatment plan yet.

  • Hi polly

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis I didn't need chemo as my oncotype test came back as 10 so good news there, I had micromets in the lymph nodes but they don't seem to worried about that, I am letrazole for 10 years and 3 month checks with tge oncologist let me know how you get on polly stay strong xx

  • I had a several tumours resulting in a mastectomy nearly two months ago. Micromets in one SLN and now looking to have chemotherapy. As I understand some of the tumours were HER negative and some positive not sure if this makes a difference.

  • Thanks Patricia

im not in a good place at the moment but hopefully when I get a plan it will help.I thought oncotype was only done if nodes were negative.

    appointment is on Monday coming.

    thank you for your support
