Hi, after being on a high last week being told by my Surgeon and my breast cancer has not spread to my lymph nodes I have been told by my Oncologist that I need 5 sessions of radiotherapy and 14 injections of Kadcyla (3 weeks apart).  I have already had 8 sessions of chemo and a mastectomy.

I have been told this is curative treatment.  Despite everyone (mainly family and friends) saying this is "good" news and tell me to stop worrying why do I feel do down and scared for the future.  I can't stop crying.

Anyone else going through this and feel the same.

xx

  • I think it's easier said than done especially for the person going through it. There are no 100% guarantees it won't come back. My oncologist gave me the good news, low score for Oncotype DX and 11% chance of it coming back in the next nine years. He also said cancer can return even with all that. My husband only heard the good bits.

No problem with drinking in moderation either, I have looked into that and it's just not true. It depends who you believe. I'm not going to keep worrying I hope. I start radiotherapy tomorrow. I think and maybe you need an extended period without appts to recover from this and gain perspective. People dismissing how you feel is not going to work. I regularly tell my husband off for his platitudes, it's hope and wishful thinking. I get that but support is hearing what you are saying. They don't know how to cope with your grief and loss of the healthy person you were and will be again. Take time, so many layers of recovery and not a quick fix with the mind. Writing this helps me to understand myself as well.

I am 66 yrs old, I was celebrating my birthday, when I got this weird spasm in my breast , about a week later I saw a dimple on the underside of my breast. Surgery beginning of Dec. No chemo just radiotherapy and Letrozole. I am going to keep walking and dancing and find ways to do positive things. Hope you can find your way through these emotions. I felt confused yesterday, walked for about 2 hrs over did it really but felt better. Xxx

  • Hi Anxious65, like you I have been told that I will have 5 days radiotherapy and 14 infusions of Kadcyla. Have had 6 sessions of chemotherapy and surgery for lumpectomy and axilla clearance as it had spread to 1 lymph node.  I start my first Kadcyla later today and radiotherapy next week.  I must have looked quite shocked when I got the news after my surgery as I only expected to have radiotherapy.   My surgeon said it is good news, you are cancer free.  I am clinging on to that.  Hope your journey goes well, wishing you all the best.
