I had a DIEP a few years ago and although I didn't have a shelf, but I did have dip at the very centre (aprox 2cm)of the abdominal scar as that. bit didn't heal quickly. When I had my nipple reconstruction and various tweaks they did a bit of scar revision to the centre of my abdominal scar. (They did it twice) so my scar is now very flat and just a white line. When you have your follow up appointment mention it and if/ when you have tweaks or nipple recon ask the surgeon to look again. The other thing it could be is the scar tissue hasn't loosened yet and from about 6 weeks onwards (check) use Bio oil  to massage in -  this does help. If it doesn't again ask at 3 month appointment and they be able to loosen it. Many of these things can be sorted afterwards.XXXxxx

I had my reconstruction 2 years ago. I also have a ‘ledge’ above my scar. I am not wanting more surgery as there was delayed healing and no guarantee of improvement to the scar. Embracing higher waisted pants!
