Hi all, I had a lumpectomy & sentinel node biopsy on the 1st December. Unfortunately margins were not clear so I needed a 2nd op, I had this on the 5th January.
My first op scar healed really well and was just a very fine line across the front of my breast. I did not get much pain from the breast and only pain under my arm where the lymph nodes were removed.
The 2nd op has been far worse, the scar is red and dark looking & is indented at the side of my breast. It’s not neat at all and it’s horrible. I know it’s a small price to pay, but it’s making me feel very low.
I doubt there is much that can be done about it, but I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem xx
No Angela, I’ve not seen my doctor. But my BC nurse said I would know if there was an infection as it would feel hot to the touch and I would probably feel unwell and have a temperature xx
Hi Valleyside, I am sorry that you have to deal with this issue now. With a second operation they take out more tissue and it is more likely to have cosmetic issues. Give it more time to see what the final results will look like. I think 12 weeks you will see how it is probably going to look.
If you are still unhappy you can see a plastic surgeon as there are procedures that can be done. Here is a link that discusses lipofilling which can fix some defects.

I had lumpectomy on both breasts by different surgeons as my chosen surgeon had to go on leave as wife was ill so I had to see an associate. I was so scared as I knew that each surgeon has their own techniques. The right breast which had DCIS was the most difficult as my breasts are small so I was worried about cosmetic issues too. I totally understand as lumpectomy sounds like it will be just a lump removed but I think partial mastectomy which is the medical term tends to be more appropriate.
Take care and hope you get the results you want.

Thank you Barbara for the advice. You’re probably right and I need to give it more time to see how the healing goes. I guess two ops on the same breast in just over 4 weeks is quite invasive xx
Oh yes for sure. It is traumatizing to those tissues. Will your next step be radiation treatments? Take it easy and I know it is hard to wait and see. I really get it.

Yes radiotherapy comes next, 1st appointment for CT Scan and measuring up on the 3rd March.
Hi Valleyside I had the exact same thing happen to me. I don’t know if using the same scar causes this but I now have a dent as well. I’m still having further treatment so will wait until all mine is done before deciding what to do but I would def speak to your BCN. We are still entitled to feel good about ourselves!
Take care during radiation and just remember moisturize. If you would like to know what products I used I think it is on a post.
