The consultant told me today I will have a mastectomy and I have been offered reconstruction. my consultant is passing me on to another consultant so will see them in 2 weeks to dicuss it in more detail. I'm not sure how I am feeling today it has been a long process. what is the recovery like after mastectomy and reconstruction? Thank you
Hi Mezza,
I underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time at end of 21st November last year, I went into hospital on a Monday and went into theatre on Tuesday morning. I was in hospital for 7 days total then got home. I would say my recovery was ok the only thing I struggled with was lying on my back to sleep which wasn’t easy, luckily I have a recliner chair which I found more comfortable to sleep, by the 1st of January I was back driving, am not back at work yet but able to get out and about. Hope this helps you understand more about the recovery process for mastectomy and reconstruction
