I had a lumpectomy in April last year with 8 lymph nodes removed. In the last few months I have been getting intermittent pain near the operation site and pins and needles near my armpit. I had a gp check and they could feel nothing. Is this normal so far down the line? My other question is when do you get your appointment for your annual mammograms?
Hi Devon
Sorry to hear that you had breast cancer last year. While intermittent pain near the operation site is not unusual so far down the line, I’m not sure about the pins and needles near your armpit. I suggest that you contact your BCN as they would have a better idea about whether pins and needles are usual. You usually get your appointment for your annual mammogram about a year from when you had your operation. I had my operation in March of 2021 and my first annual mammogram was in March of 2022 and I have been booked in for my second annual mammogram next month.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes

Hi Devon, sorry that you are having issues now. Did you have radiation treatment too as there are side effects from that too?
I live in Florida so had my first mammogram about 6 months after my second lumpectomy. Guess they wanted me to be on my regular schedule.
Hope you find answers snd get relief.

Thanks Daisy. I spoke to the breast care nurses a couple of weeks back and they said just to take painkillers. I didn't have the pins and needles then. I had my op 20th April last year. I was hoping I would get the mammogram sooner as I am due to go to Portugal on 8th May. My 1st holiday post surgery and first holiday for 4 years.
Yes I had 5 sessions of radiotherapy but apart from a nasty radiation burn and tiredness I was fine.

If you scroll down to nerve damage after radiation it may relate to you.
